I know that volunteering for Key Club this year is no longer a requirement to remain in good standing, but I’d still like to update you all on the Oklahoma Aquarium reopening and allowing volunteers. First off, wearing a mask or some sort of face covering is now required to volunteer there. Secondly, their hours have changed from 10am-6pm to 9am-9pm, meaning there are now 3 shifts in a day (9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm, and 5pm-9pm). Third, there are a few new stations at the front, the Shark & Ray touch is now open during the entire day, and there will not be any feed shows (this also means turtle and stingray feed stands are closed). Finally, the _guests_ now must follow a set path to go through the Aquarium which is laid out in red tape and are also required to follow social distancing guidelines. Hay! Key clubbers We are doing Food Drive for Retirement Home and Also if you could sew reusable face masks that will be awesome! Because face mask is becoming a nationwide shortage. you can also drop of encouragement notes.

I wanted to share some personal news this afternoon, and an update for the Volunteer Department.
After much consideration, I’ve accepted a new job outside the aquarium and will be starting Monday March 16th. My last day on staff at the aquarium will be Thursday March 12th.
Although I’m moving on from a staff position, I will definitely still be volunteering. I absolutely love the Oklahoma Aquarium and the people here, and I’m thrilled I can still be a part of the mission “to educate and inspire conservation of our aquatic world through interactive discovery.”
I leave the volunteer team in very good hands. Most of you know Chris Ray, who is currently one of our Guest Services Supervisors. I’ll let Chris tell you all about himself, but I will tell you that he is kind, professional, patient, smart, and very excited to move into this new role.

This is a fun day full of service when there is no school! Please come and bring your friends to volunteer. There will be food available in Mr. McCown’s room for you to eat when you’re volunteering on this day!
There are opportunities to donate cans and clothing if you are unable to come and volunteer. You will receive service hours for donating items.
If you put your name in one of these signups, it means you will be there to volunteer. If you do not show up, you will be required to send an apology for not showing up.

Canned Food Drive
4 cans=1 hour of service (for up to 5 hours of service credit but more can be delivered)
Must be within 1 year of expiration (no earlier than March 2019 expiration)
Deliver cans to McCown 5222 by March 6th 3pm but can be delivered before then.
All cans will be donated to the Jenks Community Food Bank as more food is needed in springtime.
Nurses Office Clothing Donations
The nurses have asked if Key Club would do a collection of the following items for a closet for emergency clothing needs (high school student sizes):
New underwear and socks (1 hour of service for every package up to 5 packages)
New or gently used: leggings, sweatpants, t-shirts, basketball shorts. (1 hour of service for every 2 items)
All items should be delivered to McCown’s room 5222 by March 6th 3pm.
Teacher Breakfast Food Donations: bring items to 5222 by March 5th 4pm
JHS Teachers will be having breakfast before conferences on Friday morning. Please bring a food item purchased at the store for breakfast. All items should be delivered to Mr. McCown’s classroom 5222 (2nd floor building 5) by Thursday, March 5th 4pm. You’ll receive 2 points for every food item. Can be delivered any time on Thursday.
This is a fun event at the senior home in Jenks to talk to the senior citizens, eat snacks, play music, and dance. The seniors always enjoy talking to the students and bring your friends and have fun! You can help with set up, corsage making, running the event itself, or cleanup.

Anyone can volunteer regardless of if you can speak or write in Zomi or not. We will write short children’s books in English and translate them into Zopau. Those who feel comfortable writing in English can write in English. Those who know how to write in Zomi can translate the English book into Zopau or can even do both. Also, it’s a flexible schedule so when you finish with what you’re doing, you can definitely go volunteer on the others places.
