American Heart Association Heart Ball

The American Heart Association will need volunteers for their annual Heart Ball event. The Heart Ball is an event that is orchestrated in order to celebrate the leading efforts of the foundation in ensuring the wellbeing of the community. Volunteers will be asked to help with a variety of tasks throughout the day including unloading supplies, setting up the silent auction, and helping decorate the ballroom.

Date/Time:

  • Saturday, February 9 from 6:30 PM – 10:00 PM (Day of the Heart Ball event. Since this is a formal event, the required attire for the Saturday shift is a black shirt and pants with comfortable shoes/tennis shoes. Volunteers will also be treated to a light dinner such as wraps/sandwiches for their hard work!)
  • Note: You can sign up for as many slots as you desire! Also, make sure to sign up for the shift on 2/9!

Night to Shine 2019

What: Night to Shine it is a prom for those with special needs, ages 14 and up. Over 700 people with special needs signed up to attend this year! Volunteers are paired up with one of the special needs attendees and you will help them have a fun and memorable night! They are in need of over 400 volunteers.

When: February 8th 6-8pm (volunteers arrive from 4:30-5:30) You must also attend the volunteer meeting on January 31st from 7-8 p.m.

Who: volunteers age 16 and up to be “buddies” for the night.

Asbury Second Saturday

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful Winter Break and are ready to get back into service!

Last year, I made a post about Asbury Second Saturday service opportunity. The Second Saturdays are still happening and the next one is this Saturday, January 12th from 8:15-12 (noon). I will go ahead and post the information again in case you missed it last time.

Asbury United Methodist Church 2nd Saturday is a wonderful way to receive four hours of community service! Below is a description of how 2nd Saturday works:

  • Guarantees 4 hours of community service (8:15am-12:15pm)
  • Is free and easy
  • You can bring friends and family (children 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult)
  • Has no advance registration (except for liability form signed by parents on first visit)
  • Provides transportation to and from sites
  • Allows you to choose where and how you serve—there are different service opportunities each week for places all over Tulsa!

2nd Saturday is easy and fun:

  1. Come to Asbury Venue (6910 S 101st E Ave, SE of Asbury’s Main Building, east of David’s Bridal) on the second Saturday of the month at 8:15am wearing work clothes. 
  2. Registration is a simple liability form filled out by a parent on the first visit (do not need it filled out again for subsequent visits), or parents can go to the link at the bottom of this post to fill it out in advance.
  3. Pick a serving site from 5-10 options which vary each month. Opportunities commonly include: Interior painting, nursing home visits, cleaning, gardening, minor repairs, neighborhood pickup, organizing, block parties and food packaging. There are projects for all ages, outside and inside, easy and difficult.
  4. Get on a bus.
  5. Serve!
  6. Return to Venue by 12:15.

Christmas Shoppe: First Baptist Church Of Glenpool

Board Project: Health & Wellbeing

What: Help operate a free Christmas shoppe for families in need! This includes wrapping the presents, loading the cars, greeting the people, etc.

When: Sunday, December 9 – Wednesday, December 12. You can volunteer for sessions ranging from as early as 12:00 pm to as late as 8:30 pm. Volunteering will be done through two-hour shifts, so you can sign up for multiple throughout the day! Schedules are extremely flexible!!

ELD Parent Night Volunteers

If you are in need of a few more hours for November, 6-10 volunteers are needed to help during the Title III Annual Parent Meeting (for English Language Development).

It will occur on Thursday, November 29th at the Jenks Middle School Cafeteria from 5:15pm to 8:00pm.

You will help set up, assist the adults with childcare, give away books, and you’ll end the evening by putting the tables away. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Ruts N Guts Volunteering

If you attended the November meeting, you probably heard about the Ruts N Guts volunteering opportunity. It is an annual bike race held in Broken Arrow that draws in cyclocross racers from the surrounding states. They are still in need of volunteers for a variety of activities (especially clean up).

Who- You. They need course crossing volunteers, people to clip race transponders off athletes, and course clean-up/tear down on Sunday (5-8). Many hands make light work, and would greatly appreciate your help!

Poster Making for the Christmas Parade

This Thursday after school, we will be making posters for our Key Clubbers to carry in the Jenks Kiwanis Christmas Parade this Saturday.

This event will be from around 4-5pm in Mrs. Langley’s room.

If you enjoy painting Christmas designs, this is a great opportunity for you!

Don’t forget, you can also participate in the parade on Saturday, 10-11~ (we will be meeting at 9:15) and get double hours! (more info on a previous post)

Jenks Kiwanis Christmas Parade

To celebrate Lights On in Jenks, Jenks Kiwanis hosts the annual Christmas Parade. It will be on Saturday, November 17th from 10-10:30am on Jenks Main Street.

We will meet at 9:15 in the parking lot right across from building 6 (parking lot closest to the train tracks) before we participate in the parade. We will be walking as a group down Main Street in the parade.

Be prepared to possibly hold a Key Club poster and smile and wave at people as you walk down Main Street! Also, wear your best Christmas gear, especially Christmas hats!

This is an especially fun opportunity to meet other key clubbers and bring your friends!

No sign up necessary: just show up and join us to spread Key Club Christmas cheer!

Operation School Bell

Thursday, October 25, JEE needs 3 Zomi/Burmese & 2 Spanish interpreters from 3:30-6:00pm (or as soon as you can get there after school) at the Walmart at 81st Lewis for Operation School Bell event.

Operation School Bell is set up by the Assistance League of Tulsa to provide a shopping experience for children in need. They will receive discounted items such as:

  • new shoes
  • jacket
  • sweatshirt
  • belt
  • t-shirt or tank top
  • socks & underwear
  • hygiene kit
  • 2 books

Last year the Operation School Bell initiative served more than 26,000 students enrolled in 87 schools from 14 Tulsa-area school districts.
