Flycatcher Trail Workday

I hope your week is off to a great start. This semester we have just one more workday scheduled at Flycatcher Trail and we would love to have some Key Club members out to participate. In the past, they have played such an important role in maintaining and improving this space for our school, native wildlife, and community! The next day we are planning on hosting volunteers is this Saturday May 8th from 9am-12pm and 1-4pm. Students of course do not have to stay the full day and can come and go as they need, but we will have these two times scheduled with a break for students to get lunch if they would like to work both times.

At this workday we hope to plant flowers and herbs in the new area of the trail! This area will become a sensory garden space that will help support native wildlife and benefit our Jenks students. Of course, there are always other options and items that students can participate in as well around the garden as well! The one reminder I would give is that volunteers should bring a mask for when they are working around others and a water bottle might be a good idea as well although we will make sure to have some available for students.

Pet Adoption League

There are new volunteer opportunities for May for Key Clubbers interested in working with animals! Every Saturday this month, you can sign up to help the Pet Adoption League at PetSmart on 71st and Mingo in setting up/taking down cages, walking dogs, and playing with puppies and kittens! There are two shifts that can be covered every Saturday, the first from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, and the second from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, and two volunteers are needed for each shift. When signing up for a shift, please make sure that you intend on showing up, and please don’t sign up for more than two shifts in order to allow everyone the opportunity to volunteer. All in all, this is a great way to earn hours while doing something enjoyable, like playing with puppies! If you have any questions, email Abeer Shoaib at abeer.shoaib39@jenksms.com, or sign up for the Remind with the code @cka92g8.

Trash Bash

Key Clubbers – an exciting volunteer opportunity!

Our local Jenks Kiwanis branch is hosting their annual Trash Bash on Saturday, May 8! This is one of their biggest fundraising events of the year, as they work to raise funds for scholarships that they will award to Jenks High School Key Club students!

Volunteers are welcome in two-hour shifts, starting at 8 am and going through 4 pm.

While the event provides community members with an opportunity to dump large quantities of trash, Jenks Key Club volunteers will NOT handle trash! Instead, they will greet visitors, handle money, and—most importantly—get to know the members of Jenks Kiwanis, an adult service club that works hard to benefit members of the Jenks High School Key Club!

When: Sat, May 8, 8 am – 4 pm

Where: South Jenks, the intersection of Elm and 106th street (just head south on Elm, you can’t miss it)

Thank you for your service!

Animal Rescue Foundation

If you need an easy and fun way to get hours, then sign up for volunteering for the ARF House this Saturday! Located at Clark Park (Admiral and Garnett), the Animal Rescue Foundation has been invited to an event to show their rescue dogs and they NEED volunteers! They will need help in setting up and taking down cages, as well as with walking the dogs (and playing with them). If this interests you, then sign up for a shift! There are slots open for three volunteers from 12:30-3:00 and then from 3:00-5:30. Don’t miss out!

Flycatcher Trail Volunteer Event

Good morning! I wanted to reach out about an upcoming volunteer event scheduled at Flycatcher Trail. We are planning on hosting a Spring volunteer workday from 1-4 pm on Saturday, March 27th. Students do not necessarily need to stay the entire time and can come and go as they need. Students are welcome to invite friends or family members as well! It is looking like we will have some beautiful weather on this day, so we will be doing some planting and working on our butterfly garden expansion project at the trail. We have clean gloves and gardening tools available for volunteers but do ask that volunteers bring a mask so we can follow community and school masking guidelines. We should have water available too, but volunteers may want to bring a water bottle.

  • When: March 27th, 1-4 pm
  • Where: here
